#1194 Just Dance - Lady Gaga, Burglar Boyfriend, Rush, Dirty Joke

Show 1194 Friday 12 March
Watch today's show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.

Today we’re studying a song called Just Dance by Lady Gaga. She’s playing here in Auckland this weekend. I’d love to go I think it would be an awesome show but sadly I’m not going. Maybe next time.

I think Just Dance is a song about getting really wasted and having a good time. It’s the kind of song that you probably wouldn’t want your young kids to listen to if you’re a parent.

Here are some of the lines about getting wasted, from drinking a lot of alcohol or taking drugs or probably both:

I’ve had a little bit too much
All of the people start to rush, start to rush by

Where are my keys?
I lost my phone

I love this record baby but I can’t see straight anymore

What’s the name of this club?
I can’t remember but it’s all right

So she has had too much of something, so she can’t function normally and she can’t remember where she is, she’s lost her keys and her phone, but it doesn’t matter because she’s having a good time.

When I looked up the lyrics for this song online I noticed that a lot of people were arguing about what the actual words were.

For example, whether she says: frozen as stones or roses have thorns.

And does she say: in the jean or energy.

But the one that surprised me the most was at the start of the song, when she says RedOne.
And I always thought, like many other people it seems, that it was red wine. But no, it’s actually RedOne, which is apparently the name of the producer of the song.

STICK NEWS

Shortly after midnight a woman heard someone climbing up to her balcony.
She thought it was a burglar, so she called the police.
The police arrived and discovered the man was carrying flowers and a bottle of wine.
A police spokesperson said the man was trying to surprise his girlfriend but it all went wrong.

And that was Stick News for Friday the 12th of March.
Kia ora.

BANG! THUD!
gasp!

Come quickly!
BANG!

POLICE!
STOP!

Don't you watch romantic movies?
No... usually horror movies actually...

Word of the Day

Today’s word is rush.

This is a line in today’s song: All of the people start to rush, start to rush by

You could interpret this line in a few ways.

Rush means: to move or to do sth with great speed, often too fast.

So it could mean that everyone starts moving past her very fast.

And a rush is also: a sudden thrill experienced after taking certain drugs.

So all of the people start to rush could mean that everybody’s getting high, taking drugs.

Or it could mean that she feels disorientated because she’s been drinking and/or taking drugs, and so it feels like everybody’s rushing past her.

Oh oh, yeah
I’ve had a little bit too much, much
All of the people start to rush, start to rush by
A dizzy twister dance
Can’t find my drink or man
Where are my keys?
I lost my phone
What’s goin’ on, on the floor?
I love this record baby but I can’t see straight anymore
Keep it cool
What’s the name of this club?
I can’t remember but it’s alright, a-alright

Just dance
Gonna be OK
Da da doo doot-n
Just dance
Spin that record babe
Da da doo doot-n
Just dance
Gonna be OK
D-d-d dance, dance, dance, just
J-J-Just dance

Wish I could shut my playboy mouth
How’d I turn my shirt inside out (inside out right)
Control your poison babe
Roses have thorns they say
And we’re all gettin’ hosed tonight
What’s goin’ on, on the floor?
I love this record baby but I can’t see straight anymore
keep it cool
What’s the name of this club?
I can’t remember but it’s alright, a-alright

J-J-Just dance
When I come through on the dance floor checkin’ out that catalogue
Can’t believe my eyes so many women without a flaw
And I ain’t gonna give it up, steady trying to pick it up like a call
I’m a hit it up beat it up latch on to it until tomorrow yeah
Shorty I can see that you got so much energy
The way you twirlin’ up them hips round and round
And there is no reason at all why you can’t leave here with me
In the meantime stay let me watch you break it down and

Half psychotic sick hypnotic got my blueprint it’s symphonic
Half psychotic sick hypnotic got my blueprint electronic
Half psychotic sick hypnotic got my blueprint it’s symphonic
Half psychotic sick hypnotic got my blueprint electronic
Go use your muscle car-ve it out work it, hustle! (I got it just stay close enough to go it on)
Don’t slow! Drive it, clean it Lysol, bleed it
Spend the last dough (I’ve got it) in your pocko (I’ve got it)
