Show 495 Monday 10 September

Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.

Today is our first show at Acadia University. And our guest today is a student from Acadia. And our first Chinese guest too.
His English name is Allen. And I’m going to try and say his Chinese name too: Wu Xue Heng. This is him saying it: Wu Xue Heng.

Allen has been studying at Acadia for a year.
The first thing I asked him was why he chose this university.

When I studied at high school, um, most of my teachers from Canada.
And my head teacher is from Nova Scotia. And she introd... ah introduced this university for me. And he said it’s a ... really good university, which is good for students to get basic ability. And, and for the high school students, they will a... they will get into the environment for like this, Nova Scotia and Wolfville. They will get into the environment soon. And it’s a really friendly place.

STICK NEWS

Kia Ora in Stick News today The Daily English Show has moved yet again. For the next month TDES world headquarters will be located in a small town in Nova Scotia.

The Daily English Show started out in Honshu, Japan, in April 2006. Later that year the show moved to Hokkaido. And in May 2007, The Daily English Show world domination tour part one kicked off. First stop: Canada.
Soon after touching down in Canada, a major bidding war started amongst several top Canadian universities who were desperate to host The Daily English Show.
Acadia University came out on top and in September the entire TDES crew flew to Halifax.
The Daily English Show studio and world headquarters is now located inside a building called Fountain Commons.
Due to security concerns, TDES studio was given a code name: 139 Breakout Room.

And that was Stick News for Monday the 10th of September.
Kia Ora.

conversations with sarah
#304 What do you think of Acadia?

Step 1: Repeat Sarah’s lines.
Step 2: Read Sarah’s lines and talk to Allen.

Sarah What do you think of Acadia?

Allen Well, actually I like this place very much cause once I get to a airport, I found that the environment here is really good. Ah, like lakes, forest and the ... ah, with a small town in the nice island. And I like Acadia cos the people at here is very friendly. And most of them will smile when we walk in the street. And the .. the whole place with the study ... the students like hold a book and walk in the street and talk about the class they have. That’s why I really like the place.

Sarah Is it very different from your home town?

Allen Yeah, the technology, and the, the way we, the way teachers teach their students is total difference. In China it’s only for um, tests or some exam. But at, ah, Acadia, I mean Canada, the school, why they teach the students is for their ability and they try to give students their knowledge to get into the society.

Sarah What’s the most difficult thing about English?

Allen Ah, actually I hate grammar. And I think my reading is the ... is on the lowest level. And my speaking or writing is ... not bad.

Sarah How do you enjoy studying?

Allen Well I always imagine that with this English level I c... what I can get and what I can know with my friends and the communication with the students come from, from different countries. And that will make me very exciting.

Sarah Have you made many friends here?

Allen Yeah, ah, most of them from Asia, like Japan, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon.

Sarah What are your plans for the future?

Allen Well I think I gonna be a designer, like fine arts. And if my parents hope me can study for the marketing business. I think I should do what I want.
