#1155 Peace Quotes, Daily Diary Challenge, American Idol Argument

Show 1155 Monday 1 February
Watch today's show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi I'm Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.

And welcome to February. It’s a new month. And I thought I’d start with a quote from this calendar we have. Every day has a peace quote and February the 1st is: Peace is the respect for the rights of others.

And that’s by a guy called Benito Juárez. And I looked him up and he “served five terms as president of Mexico”. And “ … is often regarded as one of Mexico's greatest and most beloved leaders.”

So there you go, a bit of inspiration and a history lesson … February is going well already.

As I mentioned the other day, my language challenge for this month is to write a diary entry every day on lang-8. That’s a website where you can write a diary or blog or whatever and other people can read your writing and correct it.

I’m doing that in Japanese. And if you’d like to join me in my challenge and write something in English every day, then please do and please tell me your lang-8 profile number so I can check out your diary.

Last week a 52-year-old woman and her 47-year-old boyfriend were watching American Idol when they started arguing about something that happened on the show.
Apparently the man then changed the channel to try and stop the argument.
The woman attacked him with a knife and a cup of hot chocolate.
She has been charged with first-degree attempted murder.

And that was Stick News for Monday the 1st of February.
Kia ora.

conversations with sarah
#731 Would you go on Idol?

Step 1: Read Nat’s lines.
Step 2: Repeat Nat’s lines and talk to Sarah.

Nat Would you go on Idol?

Sarah No way. I can’t sing.

Nat That doesn’t stop a lot of people.

Sarah True. Do you think most of those terrible singers are for real?

Nat What do you mean?

Sarah I mean, do they really think they’re good singers, or do they just want to get on TV?

Nat I guess there’s a bit of both.
