Show 681 Monday 24 March

Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show. Today’s guest is Neesha. She’s from Australia and she’s been staying here in Niseko this winter where she did snowboarding and doing homeschooling. She said she’s been snowboarding for two years.

We mainly did powder two years ago. We only started doing jumps mainly this year, and a little bit at the end of last year.

Kia Ora, in Stick News today, the winners of the 2007 video awards have been announced and The Daily English Show narrowly missed out on the prize for the best instructional video.

The winners of the second annual YouTube video awards were announced last week.
According to YouTube the twelve winners took home bragging rights, a trophy and the promise of an invitation to a special event later this year.
Sadly, The Daily English Show was robbed of the best instructional video title by some boring video about a Rubik’s cube.

And that was Stick News for Monday the 24th of March.

conversations with sarah
#418 What’s your dream for the future?

Step 1: Repeat Sarah’s lines.
Step 2: Read Sarah’s lines and talk to Neesha.

Sarah What’s your favourite thing to do on a snowboard?

Neesha With tricks, I like doing method grabs, which is where you grab the back of the board in between your feet.

Sarah How was the Namara Ippatsu competition?

Neesha Yeah, it was good, but the jumps were pretty big, so ... It was our first competition, so it was pretty scary.

Sarah Do you think you’ll go in it again next year?

Neesha Um yeah, I’d like to, because we’ll probably have a bit more confidence and know a bit more tricks.

Sarah Is there anything you miss about Australia?

Neesha No, maybe, um, when, um ... It’s pretty cold here sometimes so I like the warmth in Australia. And I can’t skateboard here.

Sarah How long have you been skateboarding?

Neesha Um, maybe two years.

Sarah What kind of tricks do you like to do on a skateboard?

Neesha Um, ollies and 50-50 grinds.

Sarah How long have you been learning Japanese?

Neesha We learnt a little bit last year, but we’ve mainly learnt, um, it this year. Just phrases like what is your name and how old are you and how are you and things like that.

Sarah What do you think is the best way to study Japanese?

Neesha Well, it’s good talking to people and it’s good when the Japanese people speak lots of English and they speak Japanese so you can ask them how to pronounce something properly. And we’ve got little books, just little, um, Japanese study books, so, yeah, reading them, it’s good.

Sarah Do you enjoy doing homeschooling?

Neesha Yeah, it’s really fun, because you can do half day of school work, half day of, um, snowboarding. So things like that, yeah, it’s good in that way.

Sarah What do you most enjoy studying?

Neesha Well, cause I’m in year five, I don’t study Japanese as my schoolwork. Um, I like doing algebra, even though that’s year seven work. But I’ve just started learning, um, harder times tables, like nines and eight times tables, things like that.

Sarah What’s your dream for the future?

Neesha I’d like to be a professional snowboarder or skateboarder.
