Hi I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.
Wednesday’s show is going to be a special show about how to snowboard. The Daily English Show cameraman went along to a professional snowboard lesson and after the lesson he interviewed the instructor and the student.
You’re going to see both those interviews today.
The instructor, Yuki, has been snowboarding for 9 years. This is her third season in Niseko and her first season as an instructor. She’s also spent a year in Queenstown, New Zealand and a year and a half in Banff, Canada.
The student was Evon from Singapore.
STICK NEWS
Kia Ora, in Stick News today an eleven-month-old boy survived a tornado in the United States. Two hours after the tornado destroyed his home, he was found in the middle of a field by a firefighter.
Last Tuesday, 56 people were killed when tornadoes struck five states.
CNN reported it was the deadliest tornado outbreak in the United States in more than 20 years.
In Tennessee a firefighter was searching through tornado wreckage when he found a baby lying in a field.
The baby was thrown 100 yards when a tornado shattered his home.
He was found shivering but with only minor injuries. His mother was killed.
The firefighter said he was overwhelmed by the experience and felt connected to the baby.
"He'll always have a special place in my heart," he said.
And that was Stick News for Monday 11th of February.

THE SNOW REPORT
at NAC
How were the conditions in New Zealand?
I usually went to a place called Cardrona. They had a pretty good park. And they had three or four pipes which weren’t bad.
But it was actually kind of icy .... yeah ... So that’s why I think the powder in Niseko is better than in New Zealand and Canada too.
How was Banff?
In Banff I went into the back country for the first time. It’s in the middle of the Canadian Rockies so I got to ride on many different mountains. That’s the good thing about Banff. But the snow definitely isn’t as good as in Niseko.
How did you find out about Niseko?
When I was in Canada, I met lots of Australians. They said, “But you’re Japanese! How come you don’t know about Niseko? It has such great snow!” So then I came here to check it out. That was three years ago and I’m still here.
How long are you going to stay in Niseko?
I wouldn’t mind living here permanently. Yeah, there are still a lot of things I want to try here.
What country would you like to visit next?
I’ve already been to New Zealand and Canada so next I think I’d like to visit Australia. But I’m enjoying the powder in Niseko so I’m not in any hurry to go anywhere.

#389 Where are you from?
Step 1: Repeat Sarah’s lines.
Step 2: Read Sarah’s lines and talk to Evon.
Sarah Where are you from?
Evon I’m from Singapore.
Sarah How long are you in Niseko?
Evon Ah, today is my fifth day. I came on Sunday, so, I’m just here for one week.
Sarah How many times have you come here?
Evon This is my first time.
Sarah How was the lesson?
Evon Oh, it was really good. My instructor followed me throughout the whole lesson. So, it was good. I learnt how to turn.
Sarah What other sports do you do?
Evon Oh, I ski. Ah, I run also in my free time. And sometimes I go to gym.
Sarah How did you find out about Niseko?
Evon Ah, from friends. So, I’ve got friends who came in December so they talked about it. And that’s why we are here. And Singapore is very close to Niseko. Eight hours on the plane.
Sarah Do you think you’ll come back?
Evon Definitely.
Sarah What was the hardest thing about the lesson today?
Evon Ah, for me the, the toe side that was the hardest to turn. But the hill side was actually better. I think I find toe side, because I’m a skier, it’s not easy.
