Today we’re studying a song by Mason VanValin – I hope that’s how you say it. You can find him here on YouTube and here on MySpace.
I came across his music through his double rainbow mix. And I really like his voice.
The song is called: Just a Waste of Time and I think it’s about looking back at his life and coming to the conclusion that some of the stuff that he’s done was a waste of time.

It’s just a waste of time
A dime is a 10 cent coin in the United States and Canada. And living dime to dime sounds to me like the idiom live paycheck to paycheck, which means to spend everything that you earn and not save anything. So it’s a pretty unstable situation.
Couture means expensive designer clothes basically.
Insecure means not confident. And it also means not firm or firmly fixed, not permanent and easily broken into.
So maybe he means that focusing on your appearance and material things - and worrying about what other people think of you … is a waste of time.
In today’s conversation we’re talking about this stuff, which has many names. I call it glad wrap. What do you call it?

Kia ora in Stick News today a new study shows that older people enjoy reading negative stories about younger people.
A university in Germany studied the news reading preferences of 276 adults.
The people in the study were given a limited time to look over negative and positive versions of 10 articles.
The researchers said that older people were more likely to choose negative articles about those younger than themselves because it boosts their self-esteem.

It’s similar to the word scam.
A scam is a clever and dishonest plan for making money.
So a money-making scam is evil.
But a money-making scheme, could be good, or it could be bad, or just a waste of time.
