#931 51 Things, Good Movies, German Kids Attempt To Elope, Annupuri

Show 931 Thursday 8 January
Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.

The video I recommend today is called: 51 things in my room.

It’s a video on YouTube, which is a video response to someone … which is a response to someone else. It’s basically just a video holding up 51 random things in your room or in your house. I think it’s a really cool idea and you could learn some new vocabulary – especially with Tonyo’s video because he has subtitles.
In fact, if you have a camera, why don’t you try making one of these videos yourself? I might make one too.

In the Acadia Report today two students at Acadia University were asked to talk about a good movie that they’d seen recently. And they talked about two movies that I really like: Pulp Fiction and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

The Acadia Report
Acadia University, Nova Scotia, Canada

Tell me about a good movie you’ve seen recently.

Pulp Fiction. I really enjoyed it because it had a lot of, ah, very dramatic moments in it. It also had a plot that you really had to think about when you were considering what the movie was about. Lots of different themes involving violence and just, people’s perceptions of that. As well, like, ah, just the parts, ah, how all the plot sort of came to came together in the end was really interesting to me because, the seemingly unrelated plots that ended up coming together.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Ah, Jason Statham from Crank and Vinnie Jones, who’s in Snatch and a few other movies, ah, is in this one. It’s about, ah, a group of friends who get in some trouble with money. They bet, ah, a hundred thousand dollars and end up owing five. And, ah, if they don’t get it in within a week, they start losing toes and fingers, so. It’s about, ah, gambling and the, ah, consequences of doing that. So, I just like this movie, it’s a good life experience. You know.

TDES Niseko Snow Report
in Annupuri

It was such a sunny day today. You could see the top of the mountain.
Today we went for a drive to Annupuri.
Annupuri is one of the ski resorts in the Niseko area.
A famous local guiding company called Powder Company has just relocated there this season.

Word of the Day

Today’s word is elope.

run away secretly in order to get married

STICK NEWS

Kia Ora in Stick News today two kids in Germany, aged 5 and 6 attempted to elope to Africa.

A 6-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy fell in love and decided to get married. They wanted to get married in Africa where it’s warm, so they packed a suitcase with summer clothes and left their homes at dawn on New Year’s Day while their parents were still sleeping. They took the boy’s seven-year-old sister as a witness and walked one kilometer up the road and got on a tram to Hanover train station. According to news reports, they got as far as the express train that goes to the airport before a suspicious station guard alerted police who contacted their parents. The children said they didn’t tell their parents about their plans because they thought they would not be gone for long.

And that was Stick News for Thursday the 8th of January.
Kia Ora.

Sarah Yeah, I saw Babel the other day. That was pretty good.
