Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.
Today is our last day in Nelson. Tomorrow we leave to go to Nova Scotia.
It’s sad to leave, because we’ve had such a great time here.
The people we’re staying with, Helen and Rick, they’re so nice and we’ve really enjoyed staying here.
And we really enjoyed checking out the town in Nelson and all the people we met and all the people that picked us up hitch-hiking were so nice.
So yeah, it’s sad to leave, but I’m also really excited about going to Acadia University.
In Show 461, I talked about going to Acadia.
For a month we’re going to be producing The Daily English Show from Acadia University.
They have English language courses at Acadia so they asked us to come and produce the show from there, which will help promote those courses.
And it’s such a great opportunity for us. We get to check out a Canadian University and there’ll be lots of interesting material for us because there’s always so much going on at universities.
So if you’re thinking about going to Canada to study English then the next month of The Daily English Show will be especially good for you – you’ll be able to see what it’s like.
And for people who aren’t studying English ... of course you’ll love it too.
I’m sure we’ll stumble across many interesting things while we’re wandering around Nova Scotia with a camera.
Kia Ora this is Stick News. Today an anti-spam law takes effect in New Zealand.
Spam sucks. And now in New Zealand, it’s illegal.
Thanks to the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007, companies who spam can be fined up to 500,000 dollars. Individual spammers can be fined up to 200,000 dollars.
The new law only applies to spam produced in New Zealand.
The communications minister said: The Act alone will not solve the issue of spam. However, from today enforcement agencies are now in a position to bring spammers to task for their illegitimate activities.
The Department of Internal Affairs has established a unit to enforce the new law called The Anti-Spam Compliance Unit.
And that was Stick News for Wednesday 5th of September.
Kia Ora.

Sarah I did a radio interview yesterday.
Jake Really? What station?
Sarah It’s called Kootney Co-op Radio. It’s a local radio station.
Jake Which show was it?
Sarah It’s called Japanese Musiquest. It’s a new show.
Jake How did that interview come about?
Sarah Ahh ... the girl doing that show, Yukiko, she’s ... she’s my Mixi friend. And how did that come about? ...
Jake What’s Mixi?
Sarah It’s a social networking site, like MySpace, Facebook, Bebo ...
Jake What did you talk about in the interview?
Sarah The Daily English Show. And living in Japan. Teaching English. Stuff like that.
Jake Did you record it?
Sarah No, we were planning to – but we had such a busy day. In the morning we were filming in town and then we came back and dug up all the potatoes and picked all the beans and then all of a sudden it was time for the interview and we were like ahh, not time to record.
Jake Oh well.
Sarah Yeah, never mind. It was her first show yesterday and I was the first guest so that’s pretty cool.
