#1198 How Not To Say "I Love You", Michael Clark And Lara Bingle Split, Bucket List, Into

Show 1198 Tuesday 16 March
Watch today's show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.

Today is movie day and we’re studying a movie called I Love You Too.

This is an Australian movie that hasn’t been released yet, so obviously I haven’t seen it, I’ve just seen the trailer. I think it’s coming out in May.

It’s a romantic comedy about a guy who meets a wonderful girl but they break up because he can’t tell her that he loves her even though they’ve been together for more than three years. Which is quite unbelievable really I can’t actually imagine that happening in real life, but anyway, it’s just a movie.

And in one of the scenes in the trailer, the guy, Jim, says to his girlfriend: We’ve been together for three and a half years now and I and he wants to say: I love you, but instead he says: I am so into you.

And she is not impressed. She says: Into me? You should be into bands and football and porno.

To be into something means to be interested in something or to like or enjoy something.

For example you could say: I’m really into rock music.
Or: He’s really into sports.

But it’s not a very romantic thing to say to someone, so, if you want to tell someone you love them, you should say: I love you, not: I’m into you.

Word of the Day

Today’s word is bucket list.

A bucket list is a list of things that you want to do before you die.
It comes from the expression kick the bucket which means to die.

In one of the scenes in the trailer, two guys are in a bar and they approach two girls and one of the guys says to the girls: We’ve just finished writing our bucket lists and you girls finished on top of the lists and on us.

And one of the girls says: Don’t you have to be dying to have a bucket list?

And the guy replies: Not necessarily.

I think he’s right, you don’t necessarily have to be dying to write a bucket list.
Have you ever written a bucket list?
