Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.
Today we’re studying a song by P
I really like this song and it has a very cool lyric video too. There seems to be a trend these days of artists releasing lyric videos which is excellent if you’re studying English because they’re really well made and they’re fun to watch so you can listen and read along at the same time.
I think this song is speaking to people who are in a minority or who are discriminated against or have been bullied for some reason. It’s encouraging people to be proud of their differences. Even though mainstream society might criticize you and call you a freak, don’t worry about it, stand up and be proud and party.
She says if: you're treated like a fool
You can choose to let it go
We can always party on our own
To let something go is an idiom which means to give up an idea or an attitude. Here it means that if you are being treated badly, you can choose to not get upset by it, to not let it affect you
The chorus starts:
So raise your glass if you are wrong
In all the right ways
When she says: wrong in all the right ways, I think she means that some things that mainstream society calls “wrong” are not actually wrong at all.
This is clear when you watch the video, so please go and watch the actual video as well if you’re interested in studying the
STICK NEWS
Kia ora in Stick News today a court has ruled that Hello Kitty’s friend Cathy infringes the copyright of Miffy.
In 1945 a cat called Musti was born in Belguim.

Hello Kitty was born in Japan in 1974 and her friend Cathy appeared a few years later.
In 2004 a Japanese blogger suggested that Hello
The artist who created Miffy thinks that Hello Kitty is a copy of his character.
A court in Amsterdam has now ruled that Cathy infringes the copyright for Miffy and has ordered Sanrio to stop making, selling and marketing Cathy goods in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
Sanrio says they object to the ruling and do not believe any copyright infringement took place.
And that was Stick News for Friday the 5th of November.

Word of the Day
Today’s word is nitty-gritty.
Part of the chorus of today’s song goes like this:
All my underdogs
We will never be, never be
Anything but loud
And nitty-gritty dirty little freaks
I’m not exactly sure why she uses the expression nitty-gritty there … but anyway, nitty-gritty means: the most important aspects or practical details of a matter.
For example, if you were discussing a contract for something, you might say something like:
OK, let's get down to the nitty-gritty – how long will it take and how much will it cost?
friday joke
My father's name is Laughing and my mother’s name is Smiling.
You must be kidding!

And that was The Daily English Show and we are getting ready to take our summer break. So we have a few more shows to go and then I’ll tell you a bit more about what we have planned for this summer in New Zealand. It’s pretty exciting so I’m looking forward to telling you more about that soon.
See you tomorrow! Bye.

P!nk - Raise Your Glass - LYRICS
Right right, turn off the lights
We gonna lose our minds tonight
What's the deal yo?
I love when it's all too much
5am turn the radio up
where's the rock and roll?
Party crasher, panty snatcher
Call me up if you a gangsta
Don't be fancy, just get dancy
Why so serious..?
So raise your glass if you are wrong
In all the right ways
All my underdogs
We will never be never be
Anything but loud
And nitty-gritty dirty little freaks
Won't you come and come on and raise your glass
Just come on and come on and raise your glass
Slam slam, oh hot damn
What part of party don't you understand?
Wish you'd just freak out
Can't stop comin in hot
I should be locked up right on the spot
It's so on right now
Party crasher, panty snatcher
Call me up if you a gangsta
Don't be fancy, just get dancy
Why so serious..?
So raise your glass if you are wrong
In all the right ways
All my underdogs
We will never be never be
Anything but loud
And nitty-gritty dirty little freaks
Won't you come and come on and raise your glass
Just come on and come on and raise your glass
Won't you come and come on and raise your glass
Just come on and come on and raise your glass
Oh shit, my glass is empty
That sucks
So if you're too school for cool
And you're treated like a fool
You can choose to let it go
We can always we can always
Party on our own
So raise your (ah fuck)
So raise your glass if you are wrong
In all the right ways
All my underdogs
We will never be never be
Anything but loud
And nitty-gritty dirty little freaks
So raise your glass if you are wrong
In all the right ways
All my underdogs
We will never be never be
Anything but loud
And nitty-gritty dirty little freaks
Won't you come and come on and raise your glass
Just come on and come on and raise your glass
Won't you come and come on and raise your glass for me
Just come on and come on and raise your glass for me
