Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.
Last night I went out in Hirafu. And a funny thing happened.
When we walked into the bar I saw this girl sitting at the bar and I recognized her straight away. She was a girl from the Perci video.
Perci the Persimmon is a character I made. This was an idea I had before The Daily English Show. I wanted to make a picture book to practice some useful conversation questions ... so I came up with this character: Perci the Persimmon and I took photos and made a book and took it to a design show called Design Festa. Nothing ever really came of the book ... I sold a few copies and used it my lessons and that was about it.
But when we were at Design Festa we recorded people saying a line from the book and we made a video. It has 100 different people saying a line from the book. That video is show 69 if you want to go and check it out.
I also took some of that video in Tokyo of my students and friends and in Melbourne too when I went there and I saw my sister and her ex boyfriend so they’re in the video too.
So Show 69 is the story of Perci the Persimmon with people saying a line each and Show
62 is just the story.
STICK NEWS
Kia ora, this is Stick News. Yesterday Hillary Clinton asked female voters to help her break the highest and hardest glass ceiling in the United States.
EMILY's List is a political group in the United States that supports female democratic Party candidates and abortion rights.
The name EMILY's List is an acronym for "Early Money Is Like Yeast," from the political saying, "Early money is like yeast, because it helps to raise the dough."
Yesterday Hilary Clinton spoke at an EMILY’s List event. She asked female voters to help her break a glass ceiling by becoming the first female president (I said prime minister by accident) of the United States.
Wikipedia says: The term glass ceiling refers to situations where the advancement of a person within the hierarchy of an organization is limited. This limitation is normally based upon some form of discrimination, most commonly being sexism.
The situation is a “ceiling” because there is a limitation blocking upward advancement, and "glass" because the limitation is normally an unwritten and unofficial policy.
The next US presidential elections are in November next year and Hilary Clinton hopes to break the glass ceiling and win.
And that was Stick News for Wednesday the 7th of March.
Kia Ora.
