Show 463 Thursday 9 August

Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.

The other day a guy called David who’s teaching in South Korea got in touch with me to tell me about a couple of sites for teachers:

http://eflclassroom.ning.com/

http://classroom20.ning.com/

Ning is a social networking site which I’d never heard of before. So if you’re an English language teacher you might be interested in checking those sites out.

And another teacher, Michael, who’s teaching in Japan got in touch with me and he told me about something that he did with his students.
He got his students to watch show number 320 the show when Miho was the guest. And as an exercise he got them to write their impressions and then he published them on his blog.

This is great! This is exactly the kind of ways I imagined The Daily English Show being used. Not just getting students to watch it – but also having teachers create some kind of exercises around it.
So thanks for telling me about that Michael – I’ve now put a link next to that show so people can go and check it out.
And if anyone has done anything similar, then please send me an email, I’d love to check out what you’ve done.

STICK NEWS

Kia Ora, this is Stick News. A man who stole a laptop in New Zealand has been busted after a video of him stealing the computer was posted on the internet.

On the 28th of July 2006 a man walked into a computer store in Greymouth, New Zealand and stole a laptop.
The theft was caught on camera and the same day staff uploaded the footage to the internet.
In the following months, the video got thousands of views and the story got extensive media coverage in New Zealand.
By September the police knew who did it.
And almost a year later, he was convicted.
The thief was a 50-year-old man from Hastings, New Zealand. The judge fined him
$2000 and ordered him to pay $1990 reparation.

And that was Stick News for Thursday the 9th of August.
Kia Ora.
