#1286 Nothing Big, Facebook Sues Teachbook, Solemn, Watching Movies

Show 1286 Friday 27 August
Watch today's show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.

Today’s song is called Nothing Big. It’s a beautiful little song by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and was posted on his website, which is Hit Record.

That’s a very cool site where people, as they say, “create and develop art and media collaboratively”.
So whatever you upload to that site, other people are free to remix and use in their projects, and you can use what other people upload.

So Joseph – or Joe I think he’s known as - uploaded this song and other people made videos to go with it, including one of this very cool animation.

The song starts like this:

Nothing big
Nothing grand
Nothing useful
Nothing planned
Nothing smart, or at least not very
Nothing revolutionary

Please follow the link and go and check out the rest of the song.

Kia ora in Stick News today Facebook is suing Teachbook.

Facebook, one of the most popular sites in the world, is suing an online community for teachers called Teachbook.
Facebook says that Teachbook’s use of the word “book” dilutes Facebook’s brand name, impairs Facebook’s ability to remain unique and creates the facade of a false relationship between the two social networking entities.

And that was Stick News for Friday the 27th of August.
Kia ora.

We’ve achieved world domination … now what?
Let’s start suing everyone just to show ‘em who’s boss!

You have to change your name!

You have something on your fa..
You can’t say “face”, it’s TRADEMARKED!

Word of the Day

Today’s word is solemn.

A line in today’s song is: Nothing solemn

Do you know what solemn means?

Solemn means serious.

Here are a few things that you could call solemn:

a solemn expression
a solemn oath
a solemn vow
a solemn ceremony
a solemn ritual
