Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.
Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.
I’ve decided that Thursday is Video Recommendation Day. So I’m going to recommend a video to watch. And I’m going to talk about some of the words or grammar in the video. Or the meaning.
Today’s video is by a YouTuber called paperlilies.
And the video is called: Not In The Dictionary.
So you should probably go and watch it first, before I explain it and tell you the joke.
It’s only 32 seconds.
OK you’re back? Good.
This is from an old joke I remember from when I was a kid.
Gullible means: too willing to believe or accept what other people tell you and therefore easily tricked.
For example: The advertisement is aimed at gullible young women worried about their weight.
So you say to someone: Did you know gullible isn’t in the dictionary. And they usually go: Really?!
And then you laugh, because they were just being gullible by believing that gullible isn’t in the dictionary.
Do you get it?
Anyway, this video is like a video version of that joke. And I think it’s pretty well done.
If you have any videos you’d like to suggest I talk about – then please tell me. Something about language is good. Or blogs where people are talking about a particular issue. It’s good if it’s not too long as well.
It’s kind of hard to find a good video blog that’s not too long and is clear and people are talking about something interesting. I often start watching and I think, oh this could be a good one and then they go and say something really stupid like something racist or sexist and I’m like: no, thank you.
So please tell me your suggestions and next Thursday I’m going to be talking about another video to study.

#289 You don’t care?
Step 1: Repeat Sally’s lines.
Step 2: Read Sally’s lines and talk to Sarah.
Sally Did you hear the New Zealand dollar is having a meltdown?
Sarah Yeah, I read that. Bummer.
Sally You don’t care?
Sarah No, not really. I don’t have any money so I don’t really care what the money markets do.
Sally I guess prices will go up in New Zealand.
Sarah Yeah, petrol prices have already gone up, I think.
Sally Not just petrol though.
Sarah Yeah, anything that’s imported.
Sally And the exporters will be celebrating.
Sarah Yep.
Sally What does NZ export?
Sarah Um ... mmm ... a lot of animal products, I think. And ... wood. Um, machinery. Ah, fruit and vegetables, like kiwifruit.
