STICK NEWS

Kia Ora. In Stick News today French footballer Zinedine Zidane has talked about the head butting incident on French TV. He said his mother and sister were insulted.

Zinedine Zidane was born in Marseille, France in 1972. He is 185 cm tall and has the nickname Zizou.
Zidane has played professional football in France, Italy and Spain. For the last four years, he’s been playing for Real Madrid.
He first played for the French national team in 1994. In the 1998 World Cup final, Zidane scored two goals, both with his head.
8 years later, Zidane used his head again in the World Cup final. This time he rammed it into the chest of outspoken Italian player Marco Materazzi.
After the incident, Zidane was given a red card. The Italians got a trophy.

Yesterday Zidane apologized for his behaviour, but said he didn’t regret it.
And that was Stick News for Thursday the 13th of July.

Step 1: Repeat John’s lines.
Step 2: Read John’s lines on the screen and talk to Sarah.

Sarah Did you read the news about Zidane this morning?

John No. What did he say?

Sarah He talked about the head butting incident on French TV.

John And what did he say Materazzi said?

Sarah He said that he insulted his mother and sister.

John He must have heard that kind of thing before.

He should be able to control himself.

Sarah Yeah, I guess so. But no one should say things like that.
That’s such an ugly way to play sport.

John People do it all the time though.

Sarah But not all teams play like that, do they?
I think anyone who says anything bad should be sent off.

John But the ref can’t hear everything. That’s the problem.
