#1247 Hardest Thing About English, Tour De France Headbutt, Sarah On Radio NZ

Show 1247 Monday 19 July
Watch today's show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.
It’s a new week, so it’s time for a new poll on thedailyenglishshow.com
But first let’s have a look at the results from last week.

There were 35 votes and the winner was: listening.

listening 13 37.1%
speaking 12 34.3
grammar 7 20
writing 2 5.7
something else 1 2.9

Thirteen people thought that listening was the hardest thing about English. And then came speaking, grammar, writing and something else. I wonder what that was …

If you want to improve your listening, one thing that I really recommend is to listen to the radio or podcasts as much as you can. Even if you don’t understand most of what they’re talking about, just keep listening.

There are so many radio stations and podcasts to choose from. So if you have any that you’d like to recommend to other people, please leave a comment.

I definitely recommend the station that I usually listen to. It’s called Radio New Zealand National, and especially the shows Afternoons and Saturday Morning.

And speaking of Afternoons, I was actually on that show, very briefly, today, because I requested a song for a segment they have called: The Best Song Ever Written.

I’ll put a link to that next to the video, so you can go and check that out.

And please go and answer the latest poll. The question is: What’s the main reason you’re learning English at the moment?

STICK NEWS

Mark Renshaw is a 27-year-old cyclist from Australia.
He was racing in the Tour De France with a team called HTC-Columbia.
Last week, during the sprint finish of the 11th stage of the competition, he head butted another cyclist.
He has now been disqualified.
Mark said on Twitter that he thought the decision was harsh.

And that was Stick News for Monday the 19th of July.

#795 How did you get on the show?

Step 1: Repeat Rebecca’s lines.
Step 2: Read Rebecca’s lines and talk to Sarah.

Rebecca How did you get on the show?

Sarah Oh, anyone can do it, you just have to send them an email.

Rebecca Which song did you choose?

Sarah It was a song called Ashita Ga Aru Sa.

Rebecca Is that a Japanese song?

Sarah Yeah.

Rebecca What’s it about?

Sarah Well, they actually played a different version, which is about something different ... but the one that I thought they were going to play is about a guy who really wants to tell a girl that he likes her, but he’s too shy.

Hi Sarah

I think that u missed up something on questionanswer part (today's topic: -sh), which is the meaning of the last word ( hellish ).

Thanks sis and keep it up.

Hi Ali
Thanks for the feedback :)
I'm not sure what you mean though ... do you mean that "hellish" doesn't mean "extremely unpleasant"?

OMG, I'm sorry for confusing you.
It's my mistake to understand the part.

I thought you start with the meaning after that the explaining so I missed the first one "#" which means hash, so at the end I thought also you forget to explain the meaning of hellish.

Sorry again.
