#1240 Congratulations Spain, Auckland Matariki Festival, Unbeaten All Whites

Show 1240 Monday 12 July
Watch today's show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.

Congratulations to Spain who just won the World Cup … as predicted by
85.7% of the people who answered the poll on thedailyenglishshow.com

People in Spain must be pretty happy right now, including Acula1900.

In Auckland right now there’s a festival going on called the Matariki Festival. It’s celebrating the Māori New Year. I’ve been to several events which are part of this festival and on Saturday I went to a kite day which was at a place called Takaparawha Regional Park.

It was on the top of a hill and it was a beautiful sunny day. The sun has finally decided to return after a couple of months of pretty much continuous rain – so we had this amazing view of Auckland. So if you get the chance … if you’re ever in Auckland … it’s definitely a place I recommend visiting.

This year Spain reached the finals of the World Cup for the first time ever.
They played the Netherlands and won 1-0.
Spain scored in the second half of extra time.

And that was Stick News for Monday the 12th of July.

WE'RE BEING INVADED BY AN ARMY OF ANGRY BEES!
Calm down. I'm just watching the World Cup.

Is this a football game or a card game?
Hmm...

#790 Are you ahead of us?

Step 1: Repeat Marvin’s lines.
Step 2: Read Marvin’s lines and talk to Sarah.

Marvin Did you watch the game last night?

Sarah Yeah, it was this morning in New Zealand.

Marvin Oh really? Are you ahead of us?

Sarah Yeah. We’re ahead of everyone. We’re winning. Speaking of winning … New Zealand was the only team that didn’t lose a game at the World Cup.

Marvin How about Spain?

Sarah They lost their first game.

Marvin Really?

Sarah Yeah, so we’re kind of like the champions … in a way.

Marvin But you didn’t actually win any games.

Sarah Ah, that doesn’t matter.

Marvin Okaaay.
