Show 1082 Monday 6 July
Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.
Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.
At the end of last year we got some towels made. And I was going to send them out to our members over winter … but got so busy over winter that I never got around to it, so I’m sorry about that. But, better late than never, we’re going to be sending them out this month. And recently we got some stickers made too … so we’ll be sending those out with the towels.
And I want to thank everyone again who has shown their support for The Daily English Show by becoming a member. We really appreciate it.
We have some other things to give away to members this month as well. One of them is for people living in Hokkaido basically … unless you want to jump on a plane and come here.
I have some tickets for the Hanazono Kutchan Jazz (I meant to say Music) Festival, which we’ve been helping to promote, you might have seen the banner on our site. That’s on the 25th and the 26th of July. I have four tickets to give away to one person. It’s a two-day festival so you could come with a friend for two days or a group of four for one day, it’s up to you.
If you’re interesting in these tickets, please email us: tdesmember@gmail.com You have to be a member to enter, so you can find out more about that here if you don’t know what that’s about.
Email us before midnight Sunday Japan time. And if we get more than one email then we’ll do a draw on Monday’s show. And if we only get one email, then the tickets are yours and we’ll just announce it on Monday. And if we get no emails, then … I’ll cry.
We’re also giving away some books and CDs this month and I’ll talk about them on next Monday’s show.
STICK NEWS
Kia ora in Stick News today a TV station in Turkey is planning to launch a game show where spiritual guides will try to convert non-believers.
The show is scheduled to begin broadcasting in September.
Leaders from four different religions will try and convert the ten contestants to their religion.
And the prize will be a pilgrimage to a holy site of their chosen religion
Apparently, religious authorities in Turkey are not happy about the show. A spokesperson said it was “disrespectful to all religions.” And, “religion should not be a subject for entertainment programs”.
But the makers of the show disagree and said they are “giving the biggest prize in the world, the gift of belief in God”.
They said: "We don't approve of anyone being an atheist. God is great and it doesn't matter which religion you believe in. The important thing is to believe.”
And that was Stick News for Monday 6th of July.
Kia ora.

Sarah Well, last time they put some bolts in, so they need to take them out.
Jim How big are the bolts?
