Show 884 Wednesday 12 November
Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.
Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.
I had another look at lang-8 today, to find some mistakes to talk about.
I’ve been on that site quite a bit recently - it’s quite an addictive website, you should definitely check it out. I even got the urge to write something in Japanese and 5 nice people have already corrected my rambling, broken Japanese.
So, here is today’s mistake. What do you think is wrong with these sentences?
In these days I’ve been quite busy.
In late last night I went out for dinner.
The mistake is in. Both of those sentences don’t need in at the start.
These days I’ve been quite busy.
Late last night I went out for dinner.
You can use in if it’s a month:
In September I was really busy.
Or, if you say the evening.
In the evening I went out for dinner.

Today I recommend this site and specifically this page.
I think it’s a great site for beginners to learn some basic vocabulary.
The whole site is brilliantly done and beautiful. And that’s all that needs to be said really. Go and see it for yourself.
STICK NEWS
Kia Ora in Stick News today CNN has reported that online ticket sites are selling tickets to Obama’s inauguration for thousands of dollars.
Last week, Barack Obama won the US presidential election. But he doesn’t officially become the president until the 20th of January.
Before Obama becomes president he has to put his hand on a book and say an oath.
Options include: the kind of book, whether to say swear or affirm and whether or not to say: So help me God.
CNN reported that entry to the event in Washington is free if your congressman or senator grants your request, but with demand outpacing supply a traditional giveaway has turned into a thriving online marketplace.
Some ticket brokers are selling tickets to the inauguration for thousands of dollars.
Organizers said selling the tickets violates the spirit of the event and is absolutely insane.
And that was Stick News for Wednesday 12th of November.
Kia Ora.

#550 How much are they?
Step 1: Repeat Tommy’s lines.
Step 2: Read Tommy’s lines and talk to Sarah.
Sarah That will be such an amazing event. 250,000 people, all really excited about something really important.
Tommy Are you going?
Sarah Yeah, right, even if I could afford to fly there, as if I’d get a ticket.
Tommy How much are they?
Sarah I think they’re free, but you just have to apply.
Tommy You probably have to be American.
Sarah Yeah, true, that makes sense.

Hi Sarah, just to let you know that the Blox portal with TDES Polish version has got some bigger technical problems. So why I have been not able to edit anything since yesterday. Kind regards, Jarek
Hi Sarah, as there are still being technical problems on Blox portal, I would like to transfer this project on www server. Important: the internet address could be registered only once. The shortest one could be www. tdes.pl or www. tdespolska.com. As you are TDES project author, do you have some comments about what this address could be like, eg. without shortening. Kind regards, Jarek
Hi Jarek,
You're doing an amazing job - thank you! You even have a tdes favicon - awesome.
Both of those addresses look fine to me - so whichever one you think is best :)
Cheers,
Sarah
