Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.
As you know, The Daily English Show is going to an event in Sapporo called iSummit.
Sapporo is the biggest city in Hokkaido and it’s really nice. I went there last week and there’s a big park in the middle of the city called Odori Koen – which is really cool.
It’s really clean and there’s nice grass ... and in every part of the park there’s a different feature, like a fountain or a sculpture or a garden.
And the greatest thing about this park is, during summer there is a beer garden. So, I’m really looking forward to that.
And speaking of beer – there is also going to be Free Beer at the iSummit.
What is free beer?
Well usually free beer means, of course, beer that you don’t have to pay for.
But this is a different kind of free beer.
Wikipedia says this:
The beer was created by students at the IT University in Copenhagen together with Superflex, a Copenhagen-based artist collective, to illustrate how concepts of the free software movement can be applied outside the digital world.
And this is from the FAQ on their site:
How can a beer be “free”?The recipe and the FREE BEER brand is published under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license, which basically means that anyone can use our recipe to brew the beer or to create a derivative of our recipe. You are free to earn money from FREE BEER, but you have to publish the recipe under the same license and credit our work.
Kia Ora, in Stick News today, a 48-year-old man flew more than 200 miles in a chair powered by balloons.
Kent Couch owns gas station in Oregon in the United States. In his free time he likes flying.
He recently completed his third balloon flight.
He flew in a green chair held up by more than 150 giant party balloons filled with helium.
The flight lasted around nine hours and covered about 370 kilometers.
Couch carried a BB gun on the flight and landed by shooting some balloons.
He said the flight cost about $6,000, mostly for helium.
"If I had the time and money and people, I'd do this every weekend," he said.
And his wife called him crazy: "It's never been a dull moment since I married him."
And that was Stick News for Monday 7 July.
Kia Ora.

conversations with sarah
#486 Do you like beer?
Step 1: Repeat Paul’s lines.
Step 2: Read Paul’s lines and talk to Sarah.
Paul Do you like beer?
Sarah Yeah, I do. I hardly ever drink these days though.
Paul Why not?
Sarah Partly because I’m broke and partly because I’m too busy.
Paul Too busy to drink alcohol?
Sarah Yeah. Because if I drink alcohol then I usually can’t concentrate properly the next day.
Paul Well, I guess it’s a good thing.
Sarah Yeah, probably. Still, I’m looking forward to the beer garden.
