Today I’m going to give you a few more tips for using a and the.

Tip Number 1:

We usually say the radio and the internet but TV or television with no the.

Last night I used the internet and I listened to the radio and I watched TV.

So if you’re talking about TV in general, no the.

He thinks that listening to the radio is good for you but watching TV rots your brain.

But, if you’re talking about a specific TV set, then use the.

I can’t find my keys. Have you seen them?
Yeah, they’re on top of the TV.

Tip Number 2:

You don’t usually use a or the before names of meals, like breakfast, lunch, dinner.

STICK NEWS

Kia Ora, this is Stick News. The Austrian national rugby team lost 48 nil to Lithuania last week. To get over their loss they went to a street in the centre of the capital of Lithuania and stripped off all their clothes.

The Austrian rugby team were soundly beaten in Lithuania on Saturday.
After the game, they went out and had a few drinks. Then they stood on some steps, sang a song and took off all their clothes.
Some bystanders whipped out their cameras and filmed the event and these videos can now be seen on the internet.

And that was Stick News for Wednesday the 7th of May.
Kia Ora.

Word Of The Day

Today’s word is tea.

When you think of tea you might think of a drink – but tea can also mean a meal.
In New Zealand I almost never used the word dinner. I ate breakfast, lunch and tea.

conversations with sarah
#442 What does he say?

Step 1: Repeat Tim’s lines.
Step 2: Read Tim’s lines and talk to Sarah.

Sarah This guy keeps leaving messages on our answering machine.

Tim Someone that you don’t know?

Sarah Yeah.

Tim What does he say?

Sarah He says: Today’s rice planting is cancelled.

Tim How many times has he called?

Sarah About three or four times over the last couple of months.

Tim And you don’t know who it is?

Sarah No. If we knew who it was then we could call them back and tell them they had the wrong number. I guess someone has been turning up to the rice planting, not knowing it has been cancelled.
