Show 663 Thursday 6 March

Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.

The other night the Oscars were held and the host was Jon Stewart. And the video I recommend watching today is the video of his opening monologue.

I thought some of his funniest lines were about politics.

He described one movie as: a moving story of a woman who forgets her own husband. Hillary Clinton called it the feel good movie of the year.

Watch here from 3:35

Just to explain that, if you don’t get it.

The feel good movie of the year is a phrase that people use to promote a movie that maybe has a happy ending and makes you feel good.
But the movie he’s talking about isn’t a feel good movie, presumably, I haven’t actually seen it, but I guess it’s a sad movie, because it’s about a woman who forgets her own husband. But he’s joking that it would make Hillary Clinton feel good because her husband is ... hmm pretty dodgy.

And this is another part that I thought was pretty funny:

Democrats have a historic race going, Hilary Clinton versus Barack Obama. Normally when you see a black man or a woman president, an asteroid is about to hit the Statue of Liberty. How will we know it’s the future?

STICK NEWS

Kia Ora, in Stick News today, another "memoir" published in the United States has turned out to be fiction.

Margaret Jones grew up with her rich biological family in California and went to a private school.
She recently wrote a book which she said was the true story of her life.
In the book she says she grew up in a foster home, one of her brothers was murdered by a gang and she says she sold drugs for a gang.
It turns out the story is a lie.
The author was busted after her sister saw a news story about the book and contacted the publisher.
The publisher has now recalled all copies of the book.

And that was Stick News for Thursday 6th March.

Sarah He’s off The Daily Show which is an American TV show. Have you seen that?

Tom No. It sounds like The Daily English Show.

Sarah Yeah, I found it after I started uploading The Daily English Show to YouTube.

Tom How did you find YouTube?

Sarah Um. It was a week after I started uploading The Daily English Show to grouper. And I was just searching to see if there were any other good video sites that I could use and I then found YouTube.
