Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.
Today’s words are borrow and lend.
This is a response to a video called:
KUNGZOO ENGLISH EPISODE 11: BORROW VS. LEND
That’s a useful video to watch to learn the difference between borrow and lend.
KungZoo is an English teacher from England living in Korea.
In addition to her examples, I thought I’d give you a few examples too:
This book looks interesting.
Yeah, it is. I’ll lend it to you if you like.
Oh, OK. Thanks.
Did you take the bus?
No, I borrowed my sister’s car.
Oh no, I forgot my pencil.
Here you go, use this.
Oh, thank you.
Rover lent Asimo a pencil.
Asimo borrowed a pencil from/off Rover.
STICK NEWS
Kia ora in Stick News today a Japanese whaler is being treated at a hospital in New Zealand.
Commercial whaling has been banned since 1986. But three countries continue to kill whales: Norway, Iceland and Japan.
A sick Japanese whaler is now being treated in a New Zealand hospital.
The man was on a ship hunting whales near New Zealand. The doctor on the ship said the man was so sick he needed to go to hospital.
Under the international law of the sea New Zealand has to help ships in a specified area of sea around the country.
Because of the strong opposition to whaling in New Zealand, the Japanese whaling boat was not allowed to enter New Zealand waters.
The sick man was flown ashore by helicopter.
There are now concerns for his safety. He is being kept under tight security at Wellington hospital.
The Conservation Minister said that although New Zealand helped in this case, the country’s opposition to whaling was unchanged. He said New Zealand would continue to bring diplomatic pressure to bear on Japan encouraging it to drop its whaling programme.
And that was Stick News for Tuesday the 6th of February.
Kia Ora.
the snow report
Today were going to the Sapporo Snow Festival. I’m a bit worried about the temperature. I hope the sculptures don’t melt.
