Hi, I’m Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.
Yesterday I talked about compounds and the difficulty of remembering if they are written as one word or two words, with a hyphen, no hypen.
For example: no one is two words but nobody is one word.
I mentioned compound nouns for example: wallpaper.
There are also compound adjectives, like: middle-aged.
And compound verbs, for example: upgrade.
Compound nouns, verbs and adjectives all come in different styles, like: one word, two words, hyphen, no hyphen.
And they are made in many different ways.
Here are some examples from Wikipedia to show you the many different ways compounds are made.
noun noun wallpaper
adjective noun blackboard
adjective adjective blue-green
preposition adjective over-ripe
adjective verb highlight
STICK NEWS
Kia ora, in Stick News today, the US government treats tourists like terrorists according to some in the American travel industry.
An industry group called the Discover America Partnership met yesterday and blamed the government for causing the U.S. share of international travel to drop and for hurting the United States' reputation.
According to travel industry officials, overseas travel to the United States has dropped 17 percent in the past five years.
Yesterday a travel industry group said the decline is hurting the U.S. economy.
They said the government is to blame.
They want the U.S. government to stop treating tourists like terrorists.
One spokesperson said that international travelers say they are treated like criminals and they are barked at by U.S. officials.
He said they feel unwelcome and that is leading them to choose other countries.
According to CNN Japan is the United States' third largest source of visitors after Canada and Mexico.
They sent 5.1 million travelers to the United States in the year 2000, but only 3.9 million in 2005.
And that was Stick News for Thursday the 1st of February.
Kia Ora.
the snow report
There’s a fire outside one of the bars in Hirafu. It’s pretty cool standing by a fire in the snow.

#166 How else can you cheat?
Step 1: Repeat Momo’s lines.
Step 2: Read Momo’s lines and talk to Sarah.
Momo I’ve read comments about people cheating on YouTube. What does that mean?
Sarah Well, some people want more people to watch their videos – so there are things you can do to make that happen.
Momo What can you do?
Sarah You can make lots of accounts and subscribe to yourself.
Momo What is the point in that?
Sarah Well, YouTube has pages such as “most subscribed”. So if you get on those pages then more people will notice your video.
Momo How else can you cheat?
Sarah You can somehow make the page auto-refresh so that means the view count will go up and then you’ll get on the most viewed page.
Momo How do you do that?
Sarah I don’t know. But another thing you can do is write a lot of comments under your own video and then you’ll get on the most discussed page. Oh and I just thought of another one too ... you could make all of your videos as responses to one of your own videos and then that would get on the most responded page.
